Jericho
wind symphony or orchestra with narrator and unorthodox audience participlation

"By far the most imaginative, unusual and successful work I have ever performed in 33 years of conducting. "
—Dr. Richard Fischer, Concordia University Chicago

Jericho  (2005)  16 minutes
A dramatic, surround-sound work based on the Biblical account of the battle of Jericho recorded in the Old Testament in Joshua 6. It is scored for wind symphony or orchestra with narrator, optional chorus, and features extensive (and unorthodox!) audience participation. The last third of the piece draws a parallel between the walls of Jericho and the walls we build around our own lives; walls intended for protection, but walls which bring separation; walls which need to come down.
