Prayers of Anguish
Four Songs from the Psalms

Solo Voice and Piano

Prayers of Anguish (1991) (13 minutes)
     I. Deep Waters (Psalm 69)
II. We Hung Our Harps (Psalm 137)
     III. I Waited (Psalm 40)
IV. My Soul Thirsts for Thee (Psalm 63 & 32)

This song cycle is a setting of four Psalms in which the Psalmist cries out despair. There is a progression from the despair of the the first song, "Deep waters come up to my soul, the flood it overflows," through the determination to wait upon the Lord's deliverance in "I Waited," to the yearning of "My soul thirst for Thee" which ends with "My lips will sing praise."
