Composer's notes

The Townsend 'Y' is the Y formed by the confluence the Little River and the Little Pigeon River, two mountain rivers in the Great Smokies next to the town of Townsend.  “Tubing" refers to the riding of truck inner-tubes down the white water, putting in at the 'Y."  The tubes and riders seem to dance as they bob and zig along in the fast, shallow water, dodging rocks and occasionally flipping over, dunking the rider in the crystal-clear, icey-coldwater.   The water rushes along in an irregular rhythm that is never quite predictable.
